Women’s health and advocacy was what drove me to become an Obstetrician. Somewhere along my training, I realized I did not feel as equipped to care for mothers and fetuses with complex medical problems to give them a fighting chance at having successful pregnancy outcomes. Maternal-Fetal Medicine filled that gap for me.

The institution has a long history of excellence in residency and fellowship training. Geographical location also makes it a regional/international referral center which means a large patient volume and exposure to a variety of pathologies that will be applicable to real life MFM practice.

I thought I had a healthy amount of exposure to a variety of pathologies in residency training given where I was, but this institution is a true merger of a university/community-based tertiary care facility which allows us trainees to glean what it’s like on either side of the curtain. Faculty are experienced with a vast clinical and research knowledge base and are very approachable and supportive, which further enhances the learning experience.

Miami is a city that never sleeps. It may be a bit too much of a tourist attraction for me, but I feel where I reside may be a factor. It’s a melting pot here, with different cultures/races/ethnicities. You have a little of everything here: social life, variety of restaurant options, beautiful beaches, shopping (for whatever budget you are on) etc... You can make living in Miami whatever you really want the city to be for you.
