As the third largest teaching hospital in the United States, Jackson Memorial Hospital fosters an academic environment that supports the education and training of nephrologists. As the only county hospital serving Miami-Dade County, Jackson Memorial has a mission to provide care to the most underserved populations, yet at the same time be the home of the multi-organ transplant program.UHealth Tower
UHealth Tower is a 560-facility bed that became the region’s first university-owned, multi-specialty, acute care hospital and the flagship facility of the UHealth – University of Miami Health System. UMH provides patients with personalized treatment in a high-quality environment and offers the fellow the opportunity to practice nephrology in the private setting.Miami VA Medical Center

Fellows face broad health status disparities weekly and get full exposure to a great variety of glomerulonephritis, chronic kidney disease, electrolyte abnormalities and kidney stones.Diabetes Research Institute (University of Miami Clinics)
Second year fellows are fully integrated with the faculty and staff as partners. The goal is to expose them to the world of private practice. This patient population consists of adults with private insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.Veteran’s Affairs Specialty Clinics
The Miami VA Medical Center caters to the military veteran population and their dependents. The nephrology service has a strong presence at the VA in both inpatient and outpatient services with 3 outpatient clinics fully staffed by Faculty. During the inpatient VA block, the fellow attends one of the half clinic days and while on elective rotations and the VA outpatient block, they attend to 2 half-day clinics getting full exposure to advanced CKD, hypertension, diabetic nephropathy and post-transplant in this particular patient population.Outpatient Dialysis
The division cares for over 450 patients with end stage renal disease (ESRD) receiving maintenance dialysis. Patients are treated in one of four university- affiliated dialysis clinics located throughout Miami-Dade County. The largest facility, conveniently located on campus, provides care for 200 hemodialysis and 30 peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. The University of Miami PD program is an active teaching program, and patients are followed by a nephrology fellow and attending physician. Through our partnership with DaVita Healthcare and the Baxter Corporation, we have been able to provide an integrated program of patient education and clinical care that allows the patient to make an informed and appropriate choice of renal replacement therapy. Attending physicians in the division are both medical directors of the dialysis clinics and primary providers of care for many of the ESRD patients in our units. Fellows follow hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients longitudinally in the on-campus units in their second year of training.
