Application Information
The Fellows' thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) clinic is held at the Jackson Memorial Hospital Ambulatory Clinics every Friday afternoon. We are one of only a few training programs in the nation that provides simulator-based training with an annual course for fellows utilizing a thyroid ultrasound-guided FNA model. Following completion of an initial course with the training model our fellows perform FNA on their continuity clinic patients under direct supervision from expert faculty.
Fellows have additional thyroid ultrasound training at VAMC and FNA training at Sylvester Cancer Center during their second year thyroid subspecialty block rotation. A unique experience to our training program is that during the thyroid rotation fellows will have the chance to rotate through the Endocrine Surgery clinic and learn neck ultrasound and observe thyroid and parathyroid surgery alongside the endocrine surgery fellow and Dr. John Lew, program director for the endocrine surgery fellowship program at University of Miami.
