Message from the Director
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis—collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)—are more common than many people realize. Today, an estimated 3.7 million people in the United States are living with IBD, and that number continues to grow. Once thought to primarily affect certain populations, we now know IBD impacts individuals across all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, with rising rates observed in many diverse communities.Chances are, all of us have a friend, family member, or colleague affected by IBD. That’s why we believed the South Florida community deserved a world-class center dedicated to the care and research of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In April 2013, we opened the doors to the University of Miami Crohn’s and Colitis Center. Since then, we’ve grown into a nationally recognized institution committed to improving the lives of people living with IBD.
Our center offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary care tailored to the needs of IBD patients and their families. From the moment you walk in, our entire team—including nurses, administrative staff, dietitians, and research coordinators—is deeply knowledgeable about IBD and dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care.
We offer more than just medical treatment. Our team includes physicians, nurses, a full-time dietitian, and a psychotherapist who work collaboratively to help patients manage the physical and emotional challenges of IBD. We also offer infusion services and access to advanced therapies, including clinical trials that reflect our strong commitment to research and innovation.
We are proud to be designated a National IBD Center of Excellence, with a dedicated IBD fellowship training the next generation of specialists. Additionally, we are one of the few centers in the country offering intestinal ultrasound performed by IBD-trained physicians. This cutting-edge, noninvasive tool allows us to perform point-of-care assessments to determine, in real time, whether inflammation is present—empowering both patients and providers with immediate, actionable information.
At the University of Miami Crohn’s and Colitis Center, we’re not only delivering world-class care—we’re shaping the future of how IBD is diagnosed, treated, and understood.
