Didactics & Simulation

Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management

Didactics

Residents are offered a tailored, progressive didactic series for each year of training. This means that each class meets separately for lecture, with topics that match their needs. We do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to learning sessions. CA-1 learning objectives are based on the ABA blueprint for the BASIC Exam. CA-2 and CA-3 learning objectives are geared toward ADVANCED Exam content. By the end of the series, residents have covered the content of the major anesthesiology textbooks.

Each class meets on a different weekday with protected hours from 3pm to 5pm, conveniently within the hours of a standard workday.

Simulation

The Department of Anesthesiology directs the UM-JMH Center for Patient Safety (CPS), which houses our simulation training facilities. A longitudinal simulation program is integrated into the residency curriculum to deliver skills and communication training for each stage of your development.  Learn more about the CPS facilty here.
