Application Process

Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management

Applying to the Program

We accept applications through ERAS and participate in the NRMP. The program receives over 1600 applications per year for 26 categorical and 2 advanced slots.

Applications receive a holistic review and minimum criteria are adjusted annually based on the applicant pool. Reviewers use a standard evaluation tool to assign relative weight to your application, based on several factors related to your engagement, leadership, and scholarship. You must submit a USMLE Step 2 score at the time of application.  We generally do not invite applicants with a history of exam failures in the USMLE series.

Pre-Season Open House Events

Check for our pre-season informational sessions on the ASA Medical Student Component website: https://www.asahq.org/education-and-career/asa-medical-student-component/residency-programs-virtual-open-houses.

Preference Signaling

We strongly encourage applicants to make use of the preference signaling system when applying to our program. We direct most of our application review resources to those who indicate a gold-level preference, based on our experience with signaling in the last two match cycles.

Interviews

We conduct interview online through the Thalamus scheduling app. You will be scheduled for three video interviews with key program faculty and resident representatives, usually for about thirty minutes each. This should provide you with ample time to ask questions about our program, culture, and city.  You will also be invited to a separate virtual meet and greet with residents near the week of your interview day.

Second-look Visits

We will announce a series of opportunities for an on-site visit during the month of February.  In-person visits are completely optional and will occur after the program has certified its match list.
