The Developmental Core is the largest component of the Miami CFAR and provides the major mechanism through which the CFAR can support innovative and collaborative research, particularly between basic and clinical investigators, assist in the mentoring and establishment of new/junior investigators, and provide a path for students to participate in HIV/AIDS research.
Pilot Grant Program
Pilot Grants are intended to stimulate new research and new collaborations in HIV/AIDS for generation of preliminary data to increase competitiveness for extramural HIV/AIDS funding.
Travel Awards are available on a rolling basis for pilot grant awardees with an active or recent (within 12 months) project who are presenting a paper or oral abstract to a scientific meeting.
Emerging opportunities are in place for innovative, emerging concepts only for extremely exceptional circumstances. In most cases, applications should be submitted through the annual pilot awards mechanism.
Mentoring services and assistance in grant writing, research methods, and career development are offered through the Developmental Core; young investigators are encouraged to take advantage of these services.
