Student Government

Empowering Student Voice at the Miller School of Medicine

At the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, student government serves as the bridge between the student body and medical school leadership, ensuring that students have an active voice in shaping their educational experience.

Through advocacy, collaboration, and leadership, Student Government representatives work to identify opportunities for improvement, support student initiatives, and strengthen the sense of community that defines the Miller School experience.

Whether advocating for curriculum enhancements, organizing student programs, supporting wellness initiatives, or representing student perspectives in conversations with faculty and administrators, Student Government empowers students to help shape the future of medical education.

Building a Better Medical School Experience Through Student Leadership

Miller School Student Government members collaborate with classmates, faculty, and administrators to:

  • Advocate for student needs and perspectives by bringing feedback and ideas from the student body to school leadership.
  • Enhance the student experience through initiatives that support academic success, professional development, wellness, and community building.
  • Strengthen communication between students and the medical school through regular dialogue and representation.
  • Develop leadership skills that prepare future physicians to collaborate, advocate, and lead within health care systems.

How Student Government Represents Miller School Students

Student Government is composed of elected representatives from each medical school class who serve as advocates for their peers. Representatives gather student feedback, identify priorities, and collaborate with school leadership to address opportunities and challenges.

Through various committees and leadership roles, students contribute to conversations surrounding:

  • Medical education and curriculum
  • Student wellness and support services
  • Diversity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Student events and traditions
  • Community engagement
  • Professional development opportunities

By participating in Student Government, students gain firsthand experience in organizational leadership, consensus building, and advocacy; skills that are essential for physicians who will lead teams and improve health care.

Get Involved and Make an Impact

Every Miller School student has the opportunity to contribute to the medical school community. Students can get involved by:

  • Running for an elected Student Government position
  • Sharing feedback and ideas with class representatives
  • Participating in Student Government initiatives and events
  • Collaborating with student organizations and campus partners

Leadership in medical school does not require a title: It begins with a willingness to listen, contribute, and make a difference.
