Over the past two decades, our study of fate-selection circuitry has produced a series of discoveries spanning fundamental biological principles and new therapeutic strategies.
By focusing on the minimal regulatory circuits of viruses such as HIV and cytomegalovirus (CMV), we have been able to isolate core rules of cell-fate decision-making, principles that recur broadly across biology.
A common thread runs through this work: the interplay of molecular noise and feedback in determining cell fate. These insights have reshaped how fate decisions are understood, from viral latency to embryonic cell transitions, and have opened distinct therapeutic avenues, including noise-modulating compounds, escape-resistant antivirals, and adaptive therapies designed to co-evolve with their target.
The pages linked at left provide a brief overview of each discovery.
