Weinberger Lab

Work With Us

Experimentalists, mathematicians, and physicists welcome. If you're curious about viral fate decisions, we'd love to meet you.

We believe our science matters most when it reaches beyond the lab. This page brings together our public talks, press coverage, podcasts, and community outreach, from sharing our research with broad audiences to engaging students and the public in the work of science. Explore the highlights below.

Leor's Presentations

Can we create vaccines that mutate and spread?

Leor Weinberger shares a scientific breakthrough: "hijacker therapy," a type of medical treatment that could attack, modify and spread alongside a virus, potentially treating afflicted individuals and slowing the spread of infections like HIV.

Identification of a therapeutic interfering particle: A single-dose SARS-CoV-2 antiviral intervention with a high barrier to resistance

Dr. Leor Weinberger developed therapeutic interfering particles (TIPs) that have antiviral activity against both HIV and SARS-CoV-2. TIPs are RNA strands that contain the same promoter and packaging sequence as HIV or SARS-CoV-2.

President's Council Symposium (Fall 2016)

Leor Weinberger, PhD, discusses a novel approach to defeating deadly viruses. With genetic engineering, Weinberger can change a virus to become a parasite of itself. The modified therapeutic viral particle hijacks the harmful virus, interfering with its replication in a cell, and mutating and spreading with the virus, mitigating its harm.
