Divisional research continues to explore growth factors in Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and recombinant human Bone Morphogenetic Protein (rhBMP-2). Each of these accelerates healing and bone regeneration. In addition, our stem cell research has also been advanced to direct patient benefits which together with rhBMP allow rebuilding areas of lost bone without taking grafts of bone from other areas of the body. Known as Bone Marrow Aspirates (BMA), this research is blossoming into a great advantage for our patients from bone build up for dental implants to replacing portions of the jaws lost due to tumors or serious injuries. Additionally, studies are also taken into the pathways and viral etiology or oral cancer.
Since 2003, our research into bone death from the drugs Fosamax and Prolia (treatment for osteoporosis), Zometa and more recently Xgeva (treatment in cancer patients), has led the field and answered the questions on how this occurs, as well as the development of methods to prevent and treat this serious drug side effect.
