Graduate Record Exam (GRE)

Official score report of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Aptitude Test is now optional for all applicants. Our Designated Institution (DI) Code is 7743. These codes facilitate the reporting of your scores. GRE scores are valid for five years only; after this, the test must be retaken. For information about testing dates, test centers, or to have your score forwarded, contact Graduate Record Examinations at www.gre.org.

Complete and submit all of the following items by October 1st to PTCAS at www.ptcas.org.

• Official Transcripts – The applicant should request one official transcript from each institution attended and have the transcripts mailed directly to PTCAS. In addition, international students must submit original transcripts from all foreign institutions attended directly to the Department of Physical Therapy.
• Prerequisite Coursework – For prerequisite listing please refer to our prerequisite guideline page. Anatomy and Physiology grades must be a “B” or above.
• Three Letters of Recommendation – Three letters of recommendation are required of all applicants. The applicant should request recommendations from persons well suited to evaluate her/his qualifications for graduate study and /or physical therapy. At least one recommendation must be from a registered/licensed physical therapist and one from a professor. The final recommendation should be from another responsible person well informed about relevant work that the applicant has done. All letters of recommendation should be submitted to PTCAS.
• Documentation of Clinical Hours – Verification of 100 hours of exposure to physical therapy with a licensed physical therapist is required. Hours may be completed at more than one site in various clinical settings (outpatient, inpatient rehab, inpatient acute, skilled nursing facility, etc.)

UMPT processing fee payment- $50 (All supplemental fees are non-refundable). Please note this fee is in addition to the PTCAS application fee.

Refund Policy

Non-refundable.

Applicants selected by the Admissions Committee will be invited to a virtual interview process, which includes an interview with a faculty member, a meeting with current students, and guided through a virtual tour of our facilities.

The University of Miami utilizes a rolling admissions process.

International Applicants: TOEFL All international students who do not speak English as their native language are required to submit the results of the Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants who submit a TOEFL score of at least 213 on the computer-based test, or 550 on the paper-based test, will not be required to take any courses in English as a second language.

Note: Applicants holding an undergraduate or graduate degree from an academic institution within the United States or another English-speaking country are not required to take the TOEFL examination.
