The NIH Public Access Policy ensures that the public has access to the published results of NIH funded research. Researchers are required to submit final peer-reviewed journal manuscripts that arise from NIH funds to the digital archive PubMed Central upon acceptance for publication and receive a PubMed Central ID number (PMCID).
The Policy requires that these papers are accessible to the public on PubMed Central no later than 12 months after publication. It is not sufficient to publish in a public-access journal. Some journals will do this for you, see the website for details. If you must upload the manuscript to PMC yourself, be aware of the journal’s copyright policies. You may be required to upload the final version that you submitted to the journal, as opposed to the PDF of the published article.
If you received support from the Miami CFAR, you must acknowledge the CFAR in any publication resulting from said support in order to comply with the policy and link papers to the CFAR grant (P30AI073961) via the NIH Manuscript Submission System. For help, see the NIH Public Access Policy FAQs.
