Joan St. Onge, M.D., MPH, FACP

Senior Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education

Dr. St. Onge graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and continued her training in Internal Medicine at the Georgetown University Hospital. After her chief residency, she joined the faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Georgetown, and began her career as a Clinician Educator. She has served as Program Director in two academic institutions before coming to the University in 2008. Dr. St. Onge has been involved in the development of the Regional Campus, working with the medical students as Integrated Medicine Clerkship Director, and Assistant Dean of Clinical Curriculum before becoming the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at UMMSM. A member of Alpha Omega Alpha, she has received a number of awards for teaching, including being named the Teacher of the Year by the ACP Florida Chapter in 2012. Dr. St. Onge lives in the Fort Lauderdale area with her husband and two sons. She is an avid walker, beachgoer, and cook.

Dr. Yvonne Diaz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, with a joint appointment in the Department of Medical Education. She earned her MD degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Diaz completed her residency in Internal Medicine at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2000 and immediately joined the faculty at the university. In 2004, she was appointed as the Associate Program Director for Internal Medicine. Her GME role expanded in 2012, when she was named Chief Academic Officer for UHealth and Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME), focusing on enhancing the learning environment for the GME programs, creating programs to support graduate medical education, educating on quality and safety, and mentoring young physicians. In 2019, she was named Associate Dean for GME and Designated Institutional Official for University of Miami/ Jackson Health System Graduate Medical Education overseeing over 100 programs and 1100 trainees in our system. In 2023, Dr. Diaz was selected as a member of the Group on Residency Affairs (GRA) Steering Committee. Clinically, Dr. Diaz maintains an active general internal medicine practice. In addition, she supervises residents and medical students in their clinical activities at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Internal Medicine faculty practice. Her research interests include general internal medicine, preventive medicine, primary care medicine, medical education, and process improvement.
