In order to assure the optimal learning environment for our students and other learners, the Miller School of Medicine wishes to review and reiterate its zero-tolerance policy regarding student and learner mistreatment.
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) defines student mistreatment as any of the following incidents/behaviors:
Zero Tolerance
Public Humiliation | Received lower evaluations/grades solely because of gender rather than performance |
Threatened with Physical Harm | Denied opportunities for training/rewards based on race or ethnicity |
Physically Harmed | Subjected to racially or ethnically offensive remarks/names |
Required to Perform Personal Services | Received lower evaluations/grades solely becaus of race/ethnicity rather than performance |
Subjected to Unwanted Sexual Advances | Denied opportunities for training/rewards based on sexual orientation |
Asked to Exchange Sexual Favors for Grades/Rewards | Subjected to offensive remarks/names related to sexual orientation |
Denied Opportunities for Training/Rewards based on Gender | Received lower evaluations/grades solely because of sexual orientation rather than performance |
Subjected to Offensive Sexist Remarks/Names | Subjected to negative or offensive behavior(s) based on your personal beliefs or personal characteristics other than your gender, race/ethnicity, or sexual orientation |
The Miller School of Medicine maintains a policy that prohibits the occurrence of certain behaviors by any faculty or staff member. To address and eradicate these behaviors, the school employs the following measures listed in the document entitled Learning Environment Policies.
