OASIS gives M.D./M.P.H. students an opportunity to explore, in more detail, a public health area that matches their interests and career goals. Through self-directed learning, faculty mentorship, scholarly work, and applied experiences, students build additional expertise that complement the core M.D./M.P.H. curriculum and expand their capstone project.
Participation is voluntary, and non-credit bearing. Students who complete the requirements for their chosen area earn a Certificate of Completion recognizing their specialized engagement.
Students may choose from three areas of focus:
Epidemiology & Global Health
Examine disease patterns, population health, and health equity across diverse communities and settings. Topics range from epidemiologic methods and disease surveillance to global health policy, outbreak investigation, global medicine, program implementation in under resourced areas, and the social, behavioral, and environmental determinants of health.
Implementation Sciences
Explore how evidence-based interventions and policies move from research into real world practice, and how they are adapted, evaluated, and sustained. Students consider the factors behind successful implementation, including stakeholder engagement, organizational readiness, health equity, and program sustainability.
AI & Public Health Informatics
Discover how data, artificial intelligence, and informatics are reshaping medicine and public health, research, surveillance, and healthcare delivery. Explore the ethics, privacy, bias, and equity questions that come with the use of AI tools.
Across all three areas, students develop their interests through faculty mentorship, research and scholarly activity, applied projects, and connections to their M.D./M.P.H. capstone.
