Bioinformatics Requirements
All graduate students are required to complete a bioinformatics workshop or course before they graduate. This requirement can be met by taking either the PIB 706 (Bioinformatics for the Biomedical Sciences, offered every spring – tentatively) or HGG 660 (Bioinformatics Theory and Practice, offered every spring). Students can also take a bioinformatics workshop that are offered periodically.
PIBS Mentor Program
The PiBS Mentoring Program is dedicated to supporting first-year students through regular meetings with a faculty mentor and a previous PiBS student. The program aims to develop essential skills for swift success, facilitate the transition from undergraduate to graduate studies, and create a trustworthy environment where students feel their concerns are addressed. By alleviating the fear of navigating the system alone and providing strategic advice on course and lab selections, the program ensures that students achieve their academic goals. Our objective is for students to complete their PhD within five years, producing 1-2 high-quality first author papers and 1-2 second author papers.
