Office of Financial Assistance

Financial aid is available through federal and private loans for students who need additional financial support. Applicants will automatically be considered for a limited number of scholarships. Both federal and private educational loans require students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA helps lenders determine a student’s eligibility for aid and the amount of aid needed. State and institutional aid sources also require a completed FAFSA. Please refer to the link below for further loan information (including loan opportunities for international students).

McKnight Doctoral Fellowships

McKnight Doctoral Fellowships are available to African American and Hispanic U.S. citizens applying to a Ph.D. program in an eligible field of study. The University of Miami is one of nine participating institutions in the State of Florida.

Each Fellowship award consists of $17,000 per year in tuition, fees, and stipend, as well as an excellent academic support system. Applications are due January 15. To be considered for the Fellowship, applicants must complete both the McKnight Doctoral Fellowship application and a UM application for graduate study.

Health Insurance

Graduate students enrolled full-time at the University of Miami are required to obtain adequate health insurance. The university offers a student health insurance plan through the student health service.

U.S. citizens and permanent residents with adequate health insurance may request to waive the insurance fee via CaneLink.
