Rotations Overview

The academic year is divided into six block rotations (2 months per block), where residents work with disease site experts (in predominantly single attending rotations). This structure ensures residents gain exposure to various disease sites multiple times throughout their training. A unique rotation with the Chairman and Vice Chairman/Program Director offers direct mentorship and valuable insight into leadership. Additionally, we provide 12 months dedicated to research and scholarly activity during the PGY-4 year.

Our program provides a structured progression of clinical and research training across all PGY levels:

  • PGY-2 and PGY-3: Dedicated to core Clinical Rotations to develop foundational and advanced clinical skills in patient care, treatment planning, and oncology decision-making.
  • PGY-4: 12 months of protected Research, providing opportunities for scholarly activity, innovation, and exploration of subspecialty interests. We also support the Holman Pathway (up to 21 months of protected research).
  • PGY-5: Combines advanced Clinical Rotations with dedicated Board Study, ensuring readiness for certification and independent practice.

For special circumstances, the schedule outlined above can be adjusted.

Call Schedule

On-call responsibilities for inpatients are covered from 5 PM to 6 AM on weeknights and include 24-hour coverage on weekends and holidays. Call is divided evenly across residents.

Training Sites

Residents primarily treat patients at three main locations in the Miami Health District. Rotations at additional locations are available and can be coordinated with residents and faculty. A complete list of our sites is as follows:
