Seeking Patient Care?
Welcome to the Functional Neurosurgery Division at the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
The faculty comprises an impressive array of experts in various surgical specialties, including stereotactic surgery, functional neurosurgery, deep brain stimulation (DBS), spinal and cranial stimulation for pain and surgery for spasticity. These advanced neurosurgical techniques have revolutionized the treatment of various neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, essential tremor, chronic pain and spasticity.
The division has a high volume of clinical cases including a variety of neuromodulatory procedures for movement disorder and epilepsy. These procedures incorporate state of the art imaging and planning equipment. The Division works closely with our department of Neurology, movement disorder division, and epilepsy division. Cases are discussed and surgical plans are created through multidisciplinary meetings. The meetings include an array of attending physicians, neuropyschologists, as well as our fellows and residents. These meetings also serve as didactic sessions for learning.
The Division has a CAST-approved one-year fellowship in functional and epilepsy surgery.
Our educational blueprint incorporates extensive training in various surgical procedures, emphasizing precision and safety in neuromodulation techniques and promoting a patient-centered approach to postoperative care. In addition, our residents and fellows are encouraged to participate in ongoing research initiatives, fostering their analytical abilities, and promoting a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation.
Our alumni are at the forefront of the neuroscientific landscape, shaping the future of functional neurosurgery and improving patient outcomes. Apply to our program and join this esteemed group.
