NeuroEndovascular Division

The NeuroEndovascular Division is conducting cutting edge research in Translational and Clinical Studies in stroke.

The main goal of our research team is to develop stem cell therapies for patients who have had a stroke and or suffer with vascular cognitive impairment. Our work is primarily divided into two main branches: 1) Pre-clinical research and 2) Clinical research. The pre-clinical research is the first step in doing translational research and forms the foundation to develop therapies that can be successfully taken to the clinic. At the pre-clinical level, our group has successfully shown the safety and efficacy of intra-arterial stem cell therapy for ischemic stroke. We are now in the process of unraveling novel mechanisms of how stem cells will help the brain heal. Simultaneously, our team is also working to take this therapy to the clinic. These, together, this holds the potential to revolutionize stroke treatment in the United States and the world at large. For clinical research, our team is the main site for several industry and NIH sponsored clinical trials for stem cell-based therapies for stroke, several endovascular device trials, and NIH registries among others.

Research Support

Research in the NeuroEndovascular Division is supported by grant funding from Inter-Disciplinary Research Initiative (IDRI) at the University of Miami, the Anderson Family Gift Fund, the Applebaum Foundation  and the Department of Neurology. The clinical trials are supported via industry funding and NIH sub-contracts. The Division encourages charitable contributions to further support our research efforts in this important area of stroke therapeutics.
