About Us

Department of Cell and Systems Biology

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Cell and Systems Biology  integrates quantitative, computational and engineering approaches to understand how genes, proteins and cellular circuits interact to drive complex biological functions. Our teams discover novel interactions of biomolecules within systems, and exploit this knowledge to develop new classes of medicines.

Driven by curiosity and powered by collaboration, our work spans basic research to translational science, building knowledge that fuels new ideas, new tools, and new therapeutic possibilities.

“We are advancing fundamental discoveries that will be rapidly translated into next-generation molecular therapies. With Miami’s vibrant biotech and entrepreneurial ecosystem, there is an unparalleled opportunity to dramatically accelerate translation of innovative new medicines to patients.”
Leor S. Weinberger, Ph.D., Chair, Department of Cell and Systems Biology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and Professor at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Entrepreneurial spirit and innovative research

  • We are catalyzing research with the potential to translate discoveries into new medicines that will transform patient care.
  • We foster an environment where researchers think creatively, tackle complex challenges and forge new avenues of discovery to shape the future of health care.
  • We encourage partnerships with private companies that can commercialize first-in-class therapeutics and create new markets or penetrate existing markets.
