Support Our Initiative
Wolfson DOCS seeks support from local and national sponsors to supply our activities with the material goods we need to succeed.
Students must demonstrate a significant benefit to patients or operations through any proposed research. To start a research or quality improvement project, you will need approval from leadership and may need to search for an assigned faculty mentor/content expert who will provide written acknowledgement that they will serve as the principal investigator.
Quality Improvement: The primary goal of the project is to improve DOCS processes
- Can likely proceed without an IRB
- If there is interest in reporting the work, it can be done descriptively for low-stakes events such as student conferences.
- If there is intent to describe the work for a manuscript, IRB approval should be considered based on the criteria above and may be eligible for exemption or expedited submission depending on the project
Research
The primary intention of the project is research in particular with a plan for publication (as determined by the faculty advisor/PI)
- If appropriate, IRB approval must be obtained prior to starting the work
- Student(s) need to send DOCS a copy of the IRB approval letter (including the PIs name) before beginning work that involves DOCS patients, processes, or resources in the health fair, clinic, or other DOCS-related settings
- Applying for an approved IRB can be concurrent with internal DOCS review.
All projects should be submitted through this link so that DOCS has a live database of all internal QI projects though its various projects, and actionable outcomes and applied changes can be accurately documented.
