Provide investigators with consultation and resources to facilitate their research on HIV/AIDS in the University community as well as in the broader South Florida community:
Foster new science and facilitate multidisciplinary research on HIV/AIDS prevention, progression and disease management by linking behavioral and social scientists with biomedical scientists and HIV/AIDS physicians
Conduct ad hoc meetings, focus groups, or employ other processes to help researchers understand Miami’s diverse communities and unique needs. Provide investigators with consultation and resources to facilitate recruitment and retention of community and clinic-based study participants
Assistant investigators in developing project specific community advisory boards
Hold quarterly discussion groups among behavioral/social scientists, clinical scientists and laboratory scientists and share research results, recruitment strategies, and other resources and information which may assist researchers with existing research or in developing new research or clinical trials
Promote active involvement with the South Florida community representatives and organizations in the Miami CFAR:
Convene quarterly Community Advisory Committee board meetings to promote community involvement in CFAR and incorporate HIV/AIDS community needs in activities
Develop an interactive Research Database that holds up to date information on all ongoing research projects and clinical trials to both keep the research and community based organization communities informed of CFAR research, clinical trials and other activities, but also foster collaboration and serve as the bridge to make this new
connections possible.
Disseminate results from surveys, research, and clinical trials conducted by UM HIV/AIDS researchers for use in community needs assessments
Assist in developing community needs assessment tools
Create and maintain up-to-date directory of community-based clinics and organizations as well as AIDS service organizations
Disseminate a quarterly newsletter (both electronic and print versions) about CFAR news and activities, funding opportunities, featured researchers, publications by CFAR members, and HIV/AIDS educational opportunities
Host Project SHARE seminars, a collaborative effort between the Miami-Dade County Health Department and the CFAR to disseminate theory-based HIV intervention strategies that were shown to be effective in scientific studies (three per year)
