What a transformative year for our Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine family!
Once again, we are proud to hold our place as Florida’s No. 1 medical school for federal research grants, with seven of our programs ranked among the top 25, nationwide. Our collaborative, Team Science approach is breaking down silos and fostering extraordinary scientific discoveries that are shaping the global health landscape. In the Research area of this report, you’ll find some of the most groundbreaking achievements that have emerged from our research this past year.
As technology continues to rapidly evolve, we are embracing these advances to accelerate diagnoses, address health inequities, and improve outcomes. Our world-class researchers and clinicians are integrating artificial intelligence to enhance early detection and patient care, making tremendous strides in serving our diverse populations. I am excited to see how our teams will further leverage machine learning to tackle some of the greatest medical challenges.
This integration of technology also extends to our revolutionary NextGenMD curriculum. Our students are not only exposed to cutting-edge tools like virtual reality and advanced simulations but are also encouraged to reflect on the critical role of humanism in patient care. While AI is an invaluable asset, it can never replace the essential human connection that lies at the heart of medicine.
Our thoughtful, innovative approach to medical education continues to propel our students to great heights. The Class of 2024 achieved a remarkable 100% residency placement rate, securing positions in top-tier programs at UM and across the nation. And since all students graduate with either a scholarly concentration or a dual degree, our graduates are poised to become leaders well prepared for the ever-evolving field of health care.
Miami remains one of the nation’s most multicultural and multiracial cities. We are committed to reaching out to these diverse communities to tackle social and structural determinants of health, advance educational initiatives, and improve access to clinical care and trials to better understand and help at-risk communities.
As we reach new heights year after year, I am immensely proud of our researchers, clinicians, students, trainees, and alumni. Their efforts are truly improving medicine today and shaping a brighter future for generations to come.
I invite you to explore more about our remarkable journey in this year’s report.
Sincerely,
Henri R. Ford, M.D., M.H.A.
