In Memory of Dr. Lawrence M. Fishman Lawrence M. Fishman, M.D., touched the lives of thousands of patients, students, trainees, and colleagues during his 41-year career as an endocrinologist with the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School ofMedicine and the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Miami. After retiring in 2008, Dr. Fishman continued to serve as professor emeritus before his death in January 2021 at the age of 87.
To honor the life and legacy of Dr. Fishman, his colleagues and students have created the Lawrence M. Fishman Educational Support Fund at the MillerSchool of Medicine. This fund supports a number of enrichment activities including an annual fellowship lecture. Each year, the speaker for the lecture is chosen by the Endocrinology Fellows, who also issue the invitation, schedule and coordinate the visit, and select one of their members to introduce the speaker. This lecture thus honors Dr. Fishman’s commitment to post-graduate medical education and recognizes his outstanding dedication, contribution, and service in the field of endocrinology at the University of Miami.
In addition to the lecture, this fund provides key financial support toEndocrine Fellows attend conferences, support new research and will also provide infrastructure to allow current and recent endocrine fellows to be connected with already established endocrinologists across the country (former graduates) for mentorship and networking.
