Hello applicants, I am glad you are considering our well established and popular combined degree program - the MD/MPH program - at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. We are very proud of our unique program that allows qualified students to receive both these degrees within a four-year period. Graduates of this program have gone on to do amazing things in their careers!

It is even more exciting now. Despite COVID-19, in 2020, we launched an ambitious new curriculum called NextGenMD. The curriculum recognizes three pillars of medical education: basic sciences, clinical sciences and health system sciences. It focuses on self-directed active learning and promotes the personal and professional growth of every student through longitudinal learning communities. Population health will be integrated into all phases of our three-phase curriculum.

The MD/MPH program will offer you an opportunity to understand the complexities of individual patient care as well as the public health emphasis on disparities, health policy and health care interventions at a population level. The MD/MPH program integrates the interdisciplinary faculty and diverse research programs from the Department of Public Health Sciences with the outstanding medical education experience at the University of Miami Health System, Jackson Memorial Hospital and the VA Medical Center.

We believe that graduates of this program will be uniquely prepared to solve the challenging and ever-growing problems in health care delivery in the U.S. and will serve as transformational leaders impacting the health care of our communities. We believe our focus on community, diversity and inclusion as well as the outstanding team of deans and faculty can be quite formative as you develop your public health and medicine paths to leadership.

We welcome you to explore this exciting option.

Warmly,

Latha Chandran, MD, MPH
