The program guides students from basic knowledge to the most advanced concepts. As an International Medical Graduate (IMG) with limited research experience but a strong passion for dermatology, I found that this Master's program played a pivotal role in shaping my career as a Medical Scientist. During my Master's studies and thesis work, I had the opportunity to simultaneously work at a clinic and conduct basic science research. Today, I am proud to be part of several significant publications, to have shared my work at numerous dermatology conferences worldwide, and to be working as a scientist with the University while completing the requirements for residency. |

The SBDS program has given me opportunities to immerse myself in the classroom, clinic, and research laboratory to learn all aspects of skin science. As a former SBDS-Research Track student, completing my dermatology master’s thesis has allowed me the ability to strengthen my basic science and clinical research skills. Ultimately, all of the exceptional experiences in the SBDS program have provided me with the strong foundation towards pursuing my goal of becoming a physician-scientist in dermatology. |

Mario Rodriguez, M.S.Class of 2021 M.S. in Skin Biology and Dermatological Sciences (SBDS) Program is one of a kind, tailored to students from different backgrounds (MDs, Bachelors, other Masters) who have a passion for skin biology. Located in Miami, the gateway to Latin America, students will have exposure to a very diverse range of patients, and dermatological conditions, while being taught by professors that are top-notch in the field of Dermatology. Moreover, the University of Miami facilitates shadowing, community service, and research opportunities. Coming from a Neuroscience background, I joined this program because I wanted to further learn about wound healing and neurocutaneous syndromes. This program has given me the necessary tools and knowledge to widen my scholarly horizons in the sciences of the skin, and in other scientific elements of the field that will allow me to become a well-rounded next-generation physician. |

As a pharmaceutical professional, I applied the knowledge gained in the SBDS program to develop an anti-aging sunscreen brand called SUNBAKED. I look forward to launching in 2022. |
