Application Process

Applicants to the MS in Genomic Medicine Program should be current MS1 students in the traditional MD curriculum at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Admission to the program is a competitive process and is based on the personal statement of interest, review of the previously submitted medical school application, and a personal interview (in some cases). Competitive candidates will have a clearly articulated vision for how they will use genomic medicine training in their future careers, potentially supported by prior relevant research or clinical experience.

All applicants must apply online through BiomedCAS, a centralized application service. Verified students enrolled in the University of Miami's M.D. Program who apply by Nov. 1 can request an application fee waiver code by contacting Laura Aladro at laura.aladro@miami.edu.

Enter your academic history in your online application. Official documents are not required because we receive a copy of your AMCAS application from Medical Admissions.

Enter your MCAT scores in your online application. Official documents are not required as we will obtain a copy of your AMCAS application from Medical Admissions.

Your personal essay gives you the opportunity to submit a narrative discussing your past education, experience, and current professional career objectives. Your statement of purpose should describe your:

• Reasons for interest in the M.S. in Genomic Medicine Program
• Career goals including how you hope to incorporate genomic medicine into your clinical career
• Prior clinical or research experience in genetics and how this has shaped your interest in the program

All applicants must submit a complete, up-to-date resume/CV that includes all employment, research experience, community service, education, and academic or professional honors. Be sure to detail all experience related to genomic medicine—including research experience, training, education, or other related qualifications—with bulleted summaries.

Letters of recommendation are not required for this program. To bypass the requirement on your online application, select "Recommendations" under supporting materials. After the initial committee review of complete applications, select applicants will be invited for interviews in mid-November.
