Upper Extremity Athlete Fellowship

To apply for the University of Miami Upper Extremity Athlete Fellowship, visit the Residency and Fellowship Physical Therapy Centralized Application Service (RF-PTCAS), create a login and indicate that you are applying for the University of Miami Upper Extremity Athlete Fellowship.

Applications are due on October 1st

Minimum requirements for applicants:

• US citizenship
• Graduation from an accredited physical therapy program
• ONE of the following: a current ATC designation, current license as an EMT, OR certification as an Emergency Responder
• Current FL State Physical Therapy license in good standing or demonstrate an ability to obtain Florida licensure
• Possess ABPTS Sports or Orthopedic board certification or completion of prior ABPTFRE accredited sports/orthopedic physical residency

Admissions Process

Applications are evaluated by the Upper Extremity Fellowship Director and Admissions committee based on:

• Admission criteria listed above
• Academic and clinical education, continuing education, and other relevant experience
• Clinical experience in sports medicine/rehabilitation
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstration of leadership, professionalism, and commitment

• Provide fellows with a comprehensive program including didactic, clinical and observational experiences in the specialty of the Upper Extremity Athlete in Sports Physical Therapy
• Produce highly trained clinicians who understand the unique demands of the overhead athlete in a collegiate and Major League Baseball setting
• Develop clinicians who are competent in treatment and progression of basic and complex injuries in the overhead athlete
• Develop clinicians who exhibit the highest level of professionalism and who are willing to give back to the field as researchers, educators, leaders, and mentors
• Train the clinician to manage upper extremity cases from acute injury to return to play
