Upper Extremity Athlete Fellowship

Department of Physical Therapy
The University of Miami, Department of Physical Therapy – Upper Extremity Athlete Fellowship Program is currently in the developing phase of accreditation. This 12-month program will offer physical therapists the ability to gain a variety of structured experiences with upper extremity athletes in a variety of settings. Fellows will have most of their didactic modules at the University of Miami, Department of Physical Therapy, on the Coral Gables campus. Clinical mentoring takes place at the University of Miami’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Lennar Medical Center. Mentoring will be led by experienced and board-certified sports and orthopedic specialists. In addition, there will be opportunities to interact with the other Major League Baseball Organizations throughout the year. There are no tuition costs and fellows will earn a salary with benefits.

Our program is currently going through the ABPTRFE accreditation process.

The annual application deadline window is from July 31st- October 1st.

Kyle Burnett

Kyle Burnett, DPT

Biography: Kyle is the Lead Sports Physical Therapist at the University of Miami Lennar Foundation Medical Center and plays a huge role in the clinical mentorship component for our sports residency and upper extremity fellowship. Kyle is a proud UM Alum completing both his Doctor of Physical Therapy and the Sports Residency at Miami. Kyle manages the care of professional, semi-professional, and collegiate athletes with an emphasis on ACL-R and shoulder instability repairs at the Lennar Center. His research interest is on Achilles Tendon repairs. Kyle continues to be involved in sport not only as a clinician but also as an athlete and won the D2 Men’s Rugby National Championship in 2024.
