Seeking Patient Care?
The Division of Neonatology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has one of the largest, most well-regarded, and longest-established Level IV neonatal units in the United States. Our faculty is comprised of 30 full-time academic neonatologists and pediatricians who provide specialized care to hospitalized infants at Holtz Children’s Hospital each day. We are dedicated to providing specialized services, including antenatal consultation for complex cases referred to our perinatal center. As the primary intensivists, we care for all infants admitted with a vast array of medical and surgical conditions. Additionally, we play a vital role in supporting the hospital’s highly advanced fetal care center, which focuses on comprehensive care of the most complex surgical and cardiac issues. Our division also includes a NICU-based ECMO program, staffed by a group of highly trained faculty.
Our recent achievements reflect continued success in both clinical and academic domains. The volume of newborn intensive care admissions remains high, and we continue to achieve excellent clinical outcomes. In addition, the division continues to be recognized for its outstanding academic activities, including the cutting-edge basic, clinical, and translational research funded by several NIH and philanthropy organizations. Faculty members regularly publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at national and international conferences, give lectures throughout the world, and attract high-quality neonatal fellows.
As a university-based program, we are at the forefront of pioneering NIH and philanthropy-funded projects in cardiorespiratory development, genomics, clinical trials, and various clinical outcome studies. These efforts, coupled with ongoing quality improvement initiatives, have contributed to our exceptional outcomes, characterized by high survival rates and low complication rates.
At the heart of our program is the division’s educational mission. Our division has a long history of success in training neonatologists, having educated over 150 neonatologists over the past 5 decades who now practice in units around the world. We strive to provide our fellows with the highest quality clinical education available. With 12 fellows who train in a robust, dynamic learning environment with opportunities for research in clinical and basic science fields, our division continues contributing to the neonatology workforce by training future leaders in neonatal clinical and academic medicine.
Additionally, since 1975, the Division has organized the renowned “Miami Neonatology International Conference,” one of the most prestigious international conferences focused on educating neonatal professionals and advancing neonatal care and research. Each year, the conference attracts over 1,000 outstanding participants from more than 50 countries and features distinguished national and international speakers.
We take great pride in our comprehensive approach to neonatology and are committed to advancing both the care we provide and the education we offer to future generations of neonatologists.
