Division of Skull Base Surgery

When you choose to study at the University of Miami, you join a family of internationally recognized surgeons committed to your academic excellence. Our faculty, consisting of 3 skull base surgeons, span the entire spectrum of neurosurgical care, performing nearly 5,000 cases annually.

The division is committed to preparing medical students to provide accurate diagnoses, devise effective treatment plans, and minimize risks for patients undergoing surgery for skull base disorders. Our curriculum is designed to enhance your understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the skull base and related structures in patients with various complex disorders.

  1. Fellowship Program: We offer a one-year fellowship in the management of neurovascular disorders and complex skull base tumors, which may be combined with an additional two-year endovascular fellowship. Opportunities for clinical research are available.

  2. Clinical Rotations: Participate in clinical rotations to gain hands-on experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients with skull base disorders.

  3. Research Opportunities: Work alongside faculty members and contribute to research projects to develop essential research skills and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of skull base surgery.

  4. Seminars and Conferences: Attend seminars and conferences featuring presentations from leading experts in the field, providing invaluable learning opportunities and networking experiences.

  5. Bi-monthly MOBS Conference: Attend multi-disciplinary discussion of complex skull base cases with other specialists including, radiology, otology, rhinology, radiation oncology, ophthalmology, head and neck, and endocrinology.

  6. Gamma Knife Training: Attend the Miami Cancer Institute Gamma Knife Training course, allowing the fellow to graduate with official Gamma Knife Certification.
