I welcome you to the Department of Microbiology and Immunology web site. Our faculty are committed to discovery and educating the next generation of scientists and physicians. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is home to a highly collegial and interactive group. At present the Department consists of 25 primary faculty member.
Our faculty and I are committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community to foster an open culture of creativity and learning. Our Department also has 26 secondary faculty members. These affiliated faculty hold primary appointments throughout the Miller School of Medicine and enrich our research and education activities in microbiology and immunology.
Our research programs seek to understand the basic mechanisms that control the host response to infection and cancer or lead to autoimmunity. Our faculty actively collaborate with others in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Diabetes Research Institute, the Center for AIDS Research, which is housed in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and industry. These interactions help to foster translating our discoveries in the laboratory to directly benefiting patients with cancer, autoimmunity, HIV/AIDS and other disorders. Our portfolio of licensing agreements and start-up companies further represents our efforts to translate our discoveries to the clinic.
Along with our educational role at the medical center campus, we also have at the Coral Gables campus one of the few undergraduate majors in Microbiology and Immunology. This program offers students a thorough educational experience that includes an opportunities for research.
Please peruse our web site for more details concerning our innovative research and educational programs.
