Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology

Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management

The congenital cardiac program at the University of Miami is based at the Jackson Memorial Hospital Holtz Childrens’ hospital campus in Miami, Florida. The program provides comprehensive diagnostic, medical and surgical management to patients with congenital heart defects. The specialized anesthesia team is comprised of three board certified Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologists and experienced certified registered nurse anesthetists. The service provides a training opportunity for our residents and fellows.

The team provides comprehensive care to children in the cardiac operating rooms and catheterization laboratories to help palliate or correct congenital heart defects. The same children with congenital heart disease are followed by our specialized anesthesia team for any non-cardiac surgeries/procedures. In addition, they follow these patients into their adult lives and provide the continued comprehensive anesthetic care required of patients with adult congenital heart disease. The team also works very closely with the pediatric cardiologists in the outpatient setting to help provide sedation during MRI, CT, and echocardiography to help optimize imaging.
