Holistic Families Program

Transforming lives for low-income families, women, and children

The Holistic Families Program studies and improves intersectional stressors such as racial trauma and gender discrimination. The program functions within the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Center for Translational Sleep and Circadian Sciences.

Leveraging innovative ethnographical and integrative tools, the research team investigates and tackles intersectional stressors (such intergenerational trauma, racial trauma, gender discrimination, caregiver burden, acculturation stress, and minority stress) among marginalized families, women, and children. The goal of the Holistic Families Program is to transform the lives of families, women, and children through science, education, training, community service, and advocacy in the U.S. and around the world.

“We want to investigate those stressors and tackle their effect among marginalized families, women, and children. Our goal is to tie in education, training, outreach, and advocacy to make transformational changes for these communities.”-- Judite Blanc, Ph.D., assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences.
