Our virology and emerging infections research focus on studying viral pathogens and developing strategies to prevent and treat infectious diseases. We aim to address public health challenges through innovative research and public health initiatives. 

Research emphases include: 

  • Emerging infectious diseases operational response 
  • Rapid mobilization processes for important clinical trials 
  • Mosquito surveillance and control, especially aedes aegypti mosquitos that spread Dengue fever and other illnesses
  • Wastewater-based epidemiology for infectious disease tracking
  • Disaster support: Psychological impact, community response and disaster relief 
  • Simple, inexpensive detection of HIV-1 antiviral drug resistance 
  • A gene therapy approach to cancer vaccines
