Qualifications and Requirements

B.S. / Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Students must be eligible for an undergraduate program in Privileged Studies, designed for students who enter the University of Miami with advanced knowledge in several disciplines. Privileged Studies provides flexibility in designing a course of study without the limitations of the conventional course distribution requirements.

Students undergo a highly selective screening process and are admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences, and they are immediately introduced to University of Miami Miller School of Medicine research. Accepted students are assured of a place in the graduate program of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department after two and a half or three calendar years of undergraduate work – provided they meet biomedical admission standards.


Qualifications

  • Unweighted GPA of 3.75
  • Combined SAT I score of 1400 (Quantitative + Verbal) or an ACT score of 32
  • SAT II score requirement of at least 600 in Math, and one science (biology, chemistry or physics)
  • Eight semesters of English and math, and two semesters each of biology and chemistry

  • Counselor recommendation
  • Three letters of recommendation from Instructors
  • Personal statement
