Application Process

Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Our first-year Program in Biomedical Sciences (PiBS) offers students a common foundation in biomedical sciences. Students do not commit to one of our eight biomedical science programs or laboratories until after completing a minimum of three lab rotations. This option allows students time to explore their interests before committing to a dissertation laboratory.

The following graduate programs accept students from our first year PiBS program:

Students Interested in Direct Admission

Students who have a firm commitment to Biochemistry & Molecular Biology may be accepted directly into this program. Applicants MUST reach out to the graduate program director for guidance before applying. Please keep in mind, a mentor commitment does not guarantee admission to the Ph.D. program and all applications are reviewed by the BMB admission committee. Slots in this admission pathway are limited and strictly related to programmatic priorities. Applications will not be considered unless you have spoken to the graduate program director, Dr. Zafar Nawaz.

For direct admission into Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, select the program designation of PhD in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (Direct Admit) on the program selection page of the application.
