Seeking Patient Care?
Thank you for your interest in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Our Division of faculty members and staff is dedicated to improving the health of all infants, children, adolescents, and young adults in Florida and beyond by promoting excellence in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of infectious diseases. As a major tertiary academic division, we have an ongoing commitment to achieving these goals through education, research, advocacy, and community outreach.
Our team of physicians and clinical pharmacist from diverse backgrounds have a long-standing and internationally renowned expertise in the clinical management of all infectious diseases and immune disorders. We provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient consultation for children with complex infections including those undergoing bone marrow or solid organ transplantation. Our outpatient services provide specialized care for primary and acquired immune deficiencies, including HIV infection by in-person and telemedicine visits. We accept referrals from Southeastern United States, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and further afield.
The expertise of faculty members goes beyond the clinic to include basic, translational, and clinical research in transplant infectious diseases, tuberculosis, antimicrobial stewardship, congenital infections, global infectious diseases, and HIV. Over the last 4 decades, members of our faculty have pioneered HIV management for affected children and adolescents, globally.
Our faculty train Pediatric Infectious Disease Fellows and others through clinical care, three-times weekly structured didactic medical education courses, and by providing mentorship on clinical, translational, and basic research projects.
Faculty members are represented at leadership level on many national societies including at Committee and Board level at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH), and the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA). They are also members of or have leadership roles at the Pediatric Infectious Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, and the American Pediatric Society. Division members directly lead multiple national and international research initiatives, which potentially offer unique opportunities to our fellows and faculty. These include the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT) and the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS). They are represented on national guideline panels for instance on Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) HIV Treatment Guidelines. Intramurally, division faculty have significant leadership roles at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine including as Director for the Center for AIDS Research.
