Endocrinology

Department of Pediatrics
The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is ranked among the top 50 pediatric endocrinology programs by U.S. News & World Report. It is also the only university-based pediatric endocrinology program in South Florida. Our faculty members provide care for children and adolescents with:

Diabetes

Our multi-disciplinary approach to the care of children and adolescents with diabetes provides medical, educational, and psychological support. We also manage the hyperglycemia that accompanies the treatment of children and adolescents with cancer as well as those who have undergone organ transplantation.

Abnormalities of Growth

Our group provides evaluation and management of children with abnormal patterns of linear growth. These problems include primary abnormalities of hormones related to growth as well as growth problems related to systemic diseases such as brain tumors.

Abnormalities of Thyroid Function

Our group provides specialized care for all conditions related to thyroid dysfunction. We are the center in South Florida responsible for ensuring the care of children with congenital hypothyroidism who have been identified by the state screening program.

Abnormalities of Pubertal Development

Our group provides evaluation and management of children with early puberty as well as those with delayed puberty. We have available the most up to date medical interventions for these conditions. We are the center in South Florida responsible for ensuring the care of children with congenital adrenal hyperplasia who have been identified by the state screening program.

Thyroid Cancer

Our group works closely with Interventional Radiology and Surgery in the identification and first-line treatment of thyroid cancer. We are the only clinic in South Florida that provides the radiotherapy necessary to fully eradicate thyroid cancer.

Abnormalities of Bone and Mineral Metabolism

Some children are born with abnormalities of skeletal development. Others develop skeletal abnormalities related to prematurity or to treatments of systemic disease. Our group provides both evaluation and treatment of these conditions.
