Message from the Chair

Welcome to the Dr. John T. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics at the Miller School of Medicine. Our department integrates clinical services, research, and educational programs to utilize genetics and genomics in human health. At our outpatient clinics located throughout South Florida, our clinical geneticists and genetic counselors provide care to all ages with suspected or diagnosed genetic disorders. The department is the referral center for Florida`s newborn screening program in South Florida and houses a molecular and biochemical genetics diagnostic laboratory to support clinical activities. We continuously rank among the top departments in NIH funding for research grants.

Clinical Care

The Division of Clinical and Translational Genetics provides state-of-the-art clinical and diagnostic in- and outpatient services for patients of all ages with genetic disorders including but not limited to inborn errors of metabolism, neurogenetic disorders, genetic syndromes, and inherited cancers, or with disorders in which inheritance is likely to play a major role.
