Our faculty have over 20 years of experience in the field of Comparative Pathology. In addition to managing the university approved cost centers in research histology and clinical pathology, we active collaborate with investigators and maintain our own research program so we have first hand knowledge of the challenges in animal research. Histology Review

  • Proper interpretation of disease or model associated changes
  • Specialized training and experience is required to recognize and accurately describe lesions in organs and tissues
  • Recognize “background lesions” which may be colony or strain specific
  • Human and animal tissues and tissue changes are not alike
  • Expertise in animal models of disease
  • Assistance in describing new models and new genetically engineered mouse strains
  • Assistance in experimental design

Clinical Pathology

  • Definition of physiological or tissue changes relative to disease – for example, changes in liver enzymes or kidney markers
  • Recognition of inflammation or infection by review of complete blood count and serum proteins
  • Interpretation of anemia – regenerative or non-regenerative
  • Aid in describing new models or mouse strains
  • Defining age related changes
  • Help in setting up specialized test options
  • Assistance in experimental design
