Clinical Experience
The Critical Care Medicine (Anesthesiology) Fellowship Program provides fellows with an extensive array of resources in the form of experienced clinicians, state-of-the-art equipment and advanced pharmacotherapy. The fellows are encouraged and constantly challenged to solve diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas and are evaluated on their ability to appropriately care for critically ill patients in a professional manner using compassionate care.
Fellows will gain vast experience working with critically ill patients in intensive care units which include: Cardiothoracic ICU, Neuroscience ICU, Medical ICU, Surgical ICU and Trauma ICU. Multi-disciplinary training includes elective opportunities in specialties such as Radiology, Transfusion Medicine, Nephrology, and Infectious Disease. Focused teaching in bedside point-of-care echocardiography is extensive and fellows also have the opportunity to train in comprehensive transesophageal echocardiogram.
The fellowship didactic curriculum is combined with the Trauma Critical Care Division in order to enrich the learning experience for both groups of trainees. Didactics consist of weekly lectures or presentations in a number of areas including core critical care topics, journal club, quality and patient safety, and morbidity & mortality. Weekly departmental grand rounds cover both anesthesia and critical care topics. Fellows will be required to partake in scholarly activities such as research projects, abstracts or other published work with individual mentoring from faculty members.
