Simulation Center

Center for Patient Safety

Originally opened in December 2004, the Center is currently situated in two locations: Park Plaza West (PPW) and Jackson Medical Towers (JMT). The PPW facility houses a fully equipped exam room, a simulated OR, a semi-private and a private patient room, two storage rooms, two control rooms, a conference room, a debriefing room, a kitchenette and staff offices. The clinical simulation areas and debriefing rooms are monitored by cameras and microphones for viewing and video recording. Across Northwest 12th Avenue, the JMT facility is primarily dedicated to procedural training and ultrasound simulation and includes three training rooms, storage and staff offices.

CPS is used on a daily basis by groups of medical students, residents, fellows, attending physicians, staff nurses, and nursing students. Between the two locations, the Center can accommodate up to four concurrent learning activities.

To streamline operations, a digital check-in solution was brought online in 2019. It allows learners to check in to their training sessions by scanning a QR code and provides the CPS team with an efficient way to collect learner demographics and keep track of facility utilization.
