The Student Training in Research (STIR) Program is designed to give pre-medical students a deeper insight into the field of medicine and research. Participants will learn how to pursue a specific research problem under the supervision of a Miller School of Medicine faculty member and will present their research findings at a Research Symposium at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The program will begin Monday, June 2, 2025 - Friday, July 25, 2025.

Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to apply, applicants must meet the following requirements:
US citizen, US permanent resident, or DACA recipient.
College junior, senior, master’s student, or recent college graduate (within the last two years).
Completed at least two years of undergraduate science or premed coursework.
Minimum overall GPA of 3.2.
Research experience not required.
Accepted students MUST live at the Lakeside Village on the University of Miami Coral Gables Campus for the duration of the program.

Only COMPLETE applications will be reviewed. ALL supporting documents must be submitted by the application deadline (no exceptions). Incomplete applications or those submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Write a Personal Statement (maximum of 400 words) explaining why you wish to participate in the Student Training in Research Program. Be sure to highlight your personal and professional goals, any research experience, and personal attributes that would be deemed desirable for a career in medicine.

(2) Letters of Recommendation
IMPORTANT: Letters of recommendation should be submitted on an official letterhead and at least one letter must come from a science professor. All letters of recommendation MUST be emailed by the recommender directly to the Office of Belonging & Inclusive Excellence at officeofbelonging@med.miami.edu. The deadline to submit letters is Friday, February 21, 2025.
