Research Focus
Welcome to the University of Miami Thyroid Study Unit, a leading research facility dedicated to the clinical and laboratory investigation of inherited and rare thyroid disorders. Our mission is to advance understanding, diagnosis, and treatment in this field through both clinical studies and basic science research. Explore our areas of interest including:
- Thyroid Hormone Resistant Syndromes such as Resistance to Thyroid Hormone (RTH) Beta and RTH Alpha and other defects in thyroid hormone action
- Defects in TH Transport (Allan Herndon Dudley Syndrome, MCT8 Deficiency)
- Defects in TH Synthesis and Metabolism (SB2 defects, deiodinase defects)
- Congenital defects of thyroid hormone synthesis (for example: Dehalogenase, thyroglobulin, thyroperoxidase, NaI symporter defects)
We also investigate thyroid abnormalities where there discordance in thyroid function tests, focusing on TSH Resistant Syndromes with insights into MacroTSH and Chromosome 15 abnormalities.
Join us in our pursuit of advancing thyroid research and improving patient outcomes. Explore our website for more information on our ongoing studies, research team, and how you can contribute to the advancement of thyroid-related knowledge.
