Research Focus

Dr. Galoian’s laboratory focuses on studying connective tissue malignancies mostly sarcomas, which are very resistant to conventional treatments and highly aggressive. Therefore, the search for new therapies is essential and urgent. The primary goal of her research is to understand the molecular pathways leading to malignant transformation. The experimental work with hypothalamic neuropeptide PRP-1 discovered earlier in the collaborative effort lead to promising results of sarcoma growth inhibition via targeting cancer stem cells responsible for malignant cell renewal tumor growth, progression, metastasis, disease recurrence, and therapy resistance. Dr. Galoian’s studies are supported by Miami Center for Orthopaedic Research and Education (Miami CORE) with donations from Philip and Carole Ratcliffe Foundation.
