Match Day 2024

After two years of virtual celebrations, Match Day returned in person as students in the Class of 2024 anxiously waited to learn where they would end up for residency after graduation.

Rick Lin

The fourth-year class applied for residency in September 2021. In the month of February 2022, we compiled our residency rank list with anticipation for Match Day, which was on March 18. Students matched early in urology, ophthalmology, as well as those participating in the military match. Some of the fourth-year class finished up some clinical rotations and electives in February. We are all looking forward to our graduation, which will take place on May 11!

Adam Levy

As an MS2 in the NextGen curriculum, I’m in the first class to begin clinical rotations in our second year of medical school here at Miller. I feel privileged to have such early clinical exposure and have been fortunate to be surrounded by outstanding mentors and clinicians. I have completed my surgery, emergency medicine, and family medicine clerkships and have rotated through Jackson and UHealth clinical sites spanning from North Miami Beach to Islamorada. Outside of my rotations, I have been performing clinical research in the field of neurosurgery with interests in neuro-oncology, functional neurosurgery, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. I have also been working as a founding member of the Miami chapter of Mission:Brain, an international organization that aims to provide advanced neurosurgical care to severely underserved populations. Additionally, I’m enrolled in the accelerated M.D./M.B.A. program and will continue to work towards my M.B.A. on completion of clinical rotations. I hope to apply the degree toward the development of novel surgical technology and academic specialty center management. While my rotation schedule and extracurriculars keep me busy, I still find time for wellness and take every opportunity to get outside, get on the water, and enjoy all that South Florida has to offer. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has afforded me abundant opportunities, and I’m genuinely proud to be a part of the UM family. Go ’Canes!

The third-year class is busy finishing up clinical rotations as part of the new NextGen curriculum. As a part of fourth-year scheduling, we recently submitted our expected specialty of choice, as well as course preferences for next year. We are also beginning to look at and apply to away rotations for our fourth year.

Michael Garcia

Halfway through my first-year of medical school, I realized that nothing could have prepared me for the experiences and the quantity of knowledge that I have been exposed to here at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine (UMMSOM). We finished learning about the basic sciences and are in our Signs, Symptoms, and Diseases course. We covered cardiology, pulmonology, nephrology, and we still have many more units. Learning about these organ systems has been enlightening as a first-year medical student, and the human body continues to amaze me with its complexity and intricacy. Furthermore, the UMMSOM’s new curriculum has allowed us to develop as future physicians. Working with standardized patients, we have expanded our understanding of physiology and pathology to diagnose and treat our simulated patient cases. In addition to standardized patients, we have been able to have early patient exposure. During our bedside sessions with our advisors, we go to Jackson Memorial Hospital and have the opportunity to take a medical history and perform a physical exam. Besides academics, UMMSOM just had its 50th Florida Keys health fair where my classmates and I provided care to the medically underserved in Monroe County. The experiences I have had so far in my medical education excite me for my future career as a physician and make me proud to attend UMMSOM.
