Biography
Yuguang Ban, Ph.D., is a research associate professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and a member of the Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Shared Resource at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Since joining the University of Miami in 2015, he has collaborated with investigators on bioinformatics analyses supporting cancer genomics and other biomedical research.
Dr. Ban’s research focuses on metagenomics, microbiome data and the integration of next-generation sequencing and other omics data. He develops statistical methods, machine learning approaches and analytical tools for pathway analysis and complex, high-dimensional datasets. His collaborative work has supported studies in cancer genomics and inflammatory bowel disease, including research examining the relationships among diet, nutrients, the microbiome and metabolites.
Before joining the University of Miami, Dr. Ban completed postdoctoral training in statistics at Northwestern University, where he developed a machine learning method for analyzing microbial networks using metagenomic data. He has served as a bioinformatics project manager for Sylvester’s shared resource since 2018. -
