Yu Zhang, M.D., is a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Hematology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She earned her medical degree in 1989 from HeNan University in China, specializing in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Dr. Zhang completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in 2005 and at the University of Miami in 2007.
Her research focuses on hematology, with a particular emphasis on the molecular mechanisms driving blood cancers. Dr. Zhang’s work aims to identify novel therapeutic targets and develop strategies to improve outcomes for patients with hematologic malignancies.
Dr. Zhang’s research also explores regulatory B cells in solid tumors, investigating their ability to suppress T cell and NK cell anti-tumor responses and their interactions with the tumor microenvironment. Her work, supported by university and NIH grants, has demonstrated that Breg cells accumulate in tumors and inhibit immune cell activation, expansion, and anti-tumor activity. Recent breakthroughs include developing an anti-CD20-IgG1-huEndoP125A fusion protein that disrupts angiogenesis, inhibits tumor growth, and reduces metastasis in mouse models.
